What was your most memorable or favorite school field trip?
The only one I remember particularly well was the last one I ever went on, and only because I was forced to in order to be able to graduate high school.
It was the middle of my senior year, and I was reviewing my academic course load for the second half of the year with my advisor when she pointed out that I wouldn't have enough Phys Ed credits to graduate. At the hippie-granola school I went to, there was no such thing as "gym class" -- you just signed up for extracurricular sports or activities that took up enough time to qualify as state-mandated physical education. I had been on the tennis team and the ski team for what I thought were sufficient credits. But no, apparently "ski team" equalled fewer credits than "tennis team" and the difference needed to be made up somehow, and quickly.
So that's how I ended up crammed in a van with a bunch of classmates I knew none too well on the way up to Maine (I think) to do some whitewater canoeing! And camping! Two things which I had never done before in my life.
It rained, I had to share a tiny tent with someone I didn't know, I had to pee in the woods, and I think I had to miss a show I wanted to go to that weekend, too. The canoeing part was intermittently fun, though seemingly neverending. And by the end of it I remember wanting to smash Zach's boom box so it would never, ever again be able to play "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" for the ten millionth time.
